Back II Basics 9 th birthday party in 2000, вЂthe white partyвЂ™. This isnвЂ™t my favourite by any stretch but I'll never forgot вЂthe momentвЂ™. There's a picture of my copy below, 25 years IвЂ™ve had it, look at the state of it, I canвЂ™t even play it anymore, IвЂ™ve worn a scratch in it. I bought it there and then and bemused my parents with it and my love for house music from that day onwards. It was too slow in comparison to all the вЂњdance musicвЂќ I'd previously heard and it sounded like it was being played backwardsвЂ¦but that kick (!). Like all good record shops they were playing music REALLY LOUD and at some point they played вЂDa FunkвЂ™ on the shop turntable. I didnвЂ™t know them, I didnвЂ™t know it, being 14 IвЂ™m not sure IвЂ™d even ever heard it before that day. It was the first 12вЂќ single I ever bought. I was 14 when I bought вЂDa GFunk / MusiqueвЂ™ in 1996. In light of the recent news, the Defected team have taken a look back at the Daft Punk catalogue and picked our favourite records from the enigmatic french duo. Releasing music as a pair for the best part of three decades, Daft Punk's influence has been felt far and wide across dance music, being behind some of the biggest cross-over dance records and inspiring a whole generation of DJs and producers.

This week it was announced that after twenty-eight years of making music together, Daft Punk were going into retirement.
